On the back of last week’s solo release, John Corabi returns with The Dead Daisies’ first live album “Live Plus Five”. The album captures the band’s set at “Live at Stonedead” from 2025, plus additional tracks from various outings across Europe and America in 2024/25.
The album covers tracks from the quintet’s previous two releases: 2024’s Light Em’ Up and last year’s Blues covers release Lookin’ for Trouble,plus tracks from earlier in their career, which includes covers of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” and “Midnight Moses” by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. I don’t usually cover live albums because it always feels like it would be better to watch a band live so you experience the live feeling. However, i don’t get much of an opportunity to see The Dead Daisies live in the UK, so was eager to cover this one.

I feel this is a strong release, Which covers all the major hits from the band’s 15 year career (including the Glenn Hughes era). The album begins with screeching riffs of “Long Way to Go” and “Rise Up”, before John Corabi thanks the crowd for coming (Which makes me think this release is back to front) This is a good start to get the live crowd on their feet, before the album “calms ” the crowd tracks with more anthemic tracks like “Dead and Gone”, “I Wanna be Your Bitch” and “I’m Gonna Ride”.
I do believe The Dead Daisies sounds better with Corabi at the helm, as his soulful voice connects with the music. He is the usual cool, calm and charismatic leader as he implores the fans to pull a sickie and vacate to “Mexico”, before checking whether they want to hear the blues. “I’m Ready” and “black Betty” sound better live than on record. The album finishes with these tracks in a special Bonus package, which helps level the album out. It brings a good balance between hard rockers and soulful, blues numbers that play to the strengths to the band , as performers, and as musicians.
Overall, i would recommend this live release to diehard fans of the band, who may be robbed of the opportunity to see them live. It’ll be a welcome acquisiton to the record shelf.
